Black Dog Farm is a pasture-based pork and poultry farm located in beautiful Livingston, Montana. The farm was borne out of a desire to provide nutritious, delicious food for our family from animals that truly live a good life. Years and years ago, we struggled to find locally and ethically raised pork and poultry and could not consciously eat meat from animals raised in confined commercialized operations. Four laying hens and a trio of breeding pigs morphed into this thriving business that provides healthy, amazingly tasty food for the community we love. Established in 2017 the farm is owned and managed by Tim & Kira, a husband and wife team, along with our dogs, cats, and little girl, Dottie. 

At Black Dog Farm, we work hard every day to raise meat & eggs from animals shown respect and dignity every day of their lives. Our animals live outdoors, rotating around our farm inside portable fencing. Our pigs, laying hens, and meat chickens eat a corn, soy, and GMO free feed of barley, peas, wheat, camelina, and species-specific organic minerals, enzymes, and amino acids. Our feed is grown and milled within an hour of our farm by Highland Harmony Farms, and we are really proud to support their grain business with our farm. We employ a team of livestock guardian dogs to keep both our animals, and our resident predators, safe -- allowing everyone to exist in the same space. We believe raising animals outdoors on pasture, where they can express their natural behaviors, produces healthier, tastier food and is better for the animals, better for the environment, and better for us. We are strong advocates of the local food movement, supporting other hyper-local farmers, ranchers, and producers in our own home and encouraging people all over the country to find a farm nearby to shop from. We are proud of the food we produce and are amazed at the creativity and variety of other local food producers here in SW Montana.

Currently, we produce eggs, pork, chicken, duck, and a little lamb. Our meat chicken season is seasonal, generally running from April-October each year. Our laying hens are at their highest production in the spring and early summer, and our pigs go to butcher year round. We raise 2 groups of meat ducks each year -- probably our favorite species on the farm. Our days and brains are full. We are shocked by all we have learned and continue to learn. We can't believe where we are today and we are always striving to improve. We are also continually blown away by the support of our community and people's enthusiasm and interest in what we are doing. We are so honored to raise your food.
